Pneumatic Dynamite Gun Tests Reported by Navy Board

Secretary Whitney receives the naval board report on January and February tests at Fort Lafayette showing the 15 inch pneumatic dynamite gun frequently hit a 50 by 100 foot water target at 360, 1700 and 2100 yards. The tests indicate range and accuracy exceed contractual requirements with a 500 pound shell producing a large crater. Minor mechanical defects are noted as expected during early adoption.
