Washington expects a fiat refusal from Berlin to modify the submarine order as German officials claim they were tricked while anti submarine protests grow in the United States. The crisis deepens with sharp exchanges and mounting pressure on Germany.
Miss Myrtle McCray, cashier at Porteous Mitchell Brann store, detected an erased postal order and alerted police. David Harris, 37, held on charges of raising post office money orders after attempting to pass a $40.38 order. he fled but left bundles behind.
Wire reports Charles C. Hart of Boston traced a trail of raised postoffice orders on merchants and hotels.
