Electrical engineer John A. Hart was found shot in an upper berth of the toy line steamer Larchmont. A porter saw a man exit Hart’s stateroom an hour before discovery. No weapon or key found, valuables missing, and a lower berth occupant slept unseen. A woman is speculated as a suspect. Page 10 for details.
A massive fire at Hoosac Tunnel Docks Pier 4 began in hay and spread within minutes destroying Piers 3 4 5 and causing severe damage to four ocean liners the Michigan Daltonhall Alexandria and Philadelphian. Firefighters suffered smoke inhalation as crews evacuated by rope to tugboats. Loss may exceed 3 million dollars.
A social circle case centers on missing Cheney securities valued at 200000 dollars. Four notes for 50000 each remain unpaid from an original six, with family sister Mabel Wilber claiming knowledge of their location.
