Cymric Brings Mormon Elders to US Immigrant Ship Arrives
The White Star liner Cymric reached Hoosac Tunnel docks from Queenstown and Liverpool two days late after a rough Atlantic crossing. Among 21 Mormon elders and several converts including Mrs Elien Merrimann and her four children, the group passed immigration and headed west to Utah and Idaho. Captain Harry Smith reported a winter sea with frequent gales and high seas keeping passengers below deck most of the voyage. The ship carried 504 steerage, 20 saloon passengers, and 11 returning cattlemen.
