Meriden Connecticut February 17 Reverend John Tyler Pettee educator and amateur astronomer died at his home after years of feeble health He was born in Sharon Massachusetts in 1822 lived in Meriden forty years taught in the city schools for two decades and ground his own lenses He deeded his property to Wesleyan University after his wife’s death leaving an estate likely to reach 10000 He belonged to the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was an associate member of the Victoria Institute in Great Britain.

Captain Thomas Scott Dies in New London at 77
