An Austrian woman named Warawara Karloszczuk, held for deportation on Long Wharf as a white slave, escaped a third story window and slid down a rain spout. Captured by a watchman she jumped into the water and was rescued after a difficult rescue. She is in critical condition at Relief Hospital due to exposure and delicate state.
A detained Austrian woman, slated for deportation after a statutory charge conviction, slipped from a harbor building window last night. She descended by rain spout to the wharf, fled toward Atlantic Avenue, argued with officers, then plunged into the water near the Winnisimmet. Rescued, she was rushed to Relief Hospital in critical condition.
Forecasts predicted a major blizzard and freezing conditions for Boston, but reports late last night show only light snow during the day with a rise in temperature and rain in the afternoon. Senator William Alden Smith of Michigan is seriously ill at his Washington home with appendicitis. Dr. Louis Barth of Grand Rapids, his personal physician, arrived late tonight. It was not yet determined if an operation would be required.
The missing wife of druggist Parat was found imprisoned for two years in a room near the Steinheil murder scene. Police freed her chained to the bed with a mail like contrivance and padlocked neck. She said her husband, jealous and abusive, refused medical help and she bore a fifth child while restrained.
Arthur B. Cunningham, driver of the Somerville car blown up in the gas explosion during subway construction at Boylston and Tremont streets, died suddenly last night at the Masonic apartments Gilman Square Somerville while attending the Somerville Royal Arch Chapter meeting.
Edwin B. Cox 51 a Boston society figure living in Brookline was arrested in his Old South office on charges brought by Blanche Eveline Reed a Fitchburg Normal School student. Reed identifies Cox as a man who pursued her in four Fitchburg visits and attacked her twice. Cox denies the accusations claiming mistaken identity and innocence of the February 9 Fitchburg incident.
Cox was bailed after arrest and will appear in Fitchburg police court on charges of assault and battery by Miss Reed. Police from Boston and Fitchburg report the case stumped them. mother and stepfather offer few clues about a possible kidnapping plot and lack relatives showing interest in Blanche’s custody.

The Boston & Maine express to Montreal collided with a freight engine at West Burke Vermont, derailing both engines and delaying the service for hours.
