Seamen's chapel fundraiser nets for destitute sailors

For months Capt Nickerson and assistants at the seamen's chapel 175 Hanover street have aided destitute seamen. To replenish funds an entertainment was held Tuesday with sailors who had been helped before performing. A large audience enjoyed vocal and instrumental music dialogues and readings. Most artists volunteered, and a snug sum was netted for the good cause.

Commodore I H Allen Enters Port After 132 Day Passage

The fine new ship Commodore I H Allen of 2416 tons register arrived at the port yesterday on her first voyage from New York. After a 132 day passage with a large cargo she endured very bad weather off Cape Horn but sustained no damage and is in excellent condition. The shorehead stands as a lifelike replica of the Commodore with a cigar, resisting winds and waves. She docks early this week to discharge. Liverpool, Feb 17, 1885.

Boothbay Feb 16 The revenue cutter A J Dallas aided vessels trapped by ice in East harbor by cutting a path through the ice and clearing a large portion of the ice from the ha js Moriches. Feb 15 Steamer Oliveto floated at 4 PM yesterday. Water pumped into her hold to preventrolling. At 9 AM she had five feet of water in the hold. All hands rescued by life saving crew and steamer abandoned. No known leak. hawser gone. sea very heavy. outlook doubtful.
