Providence Man Indicted in First Degree Murder

Indictment charging first degree murder was returned today against Antonio Mancini of Providence in the shooting of Alberto Alterio near police headquarters last week. Two policemen testified before the grand jury they saw Mancini discard a revolver after Alterio fell.

New directors for the Mutual and Commercial Finance Corporations, two firms financed by the H. V. Greene Company, which have been under a stockholders committee since last August, were elected yesterday.

Two Boston Transit Firms Stocks Face Major Losses

Patrick F. Sullivan of Lowell and five executives were chosen for leadership of the Bay State Street Railway Company and its partner. Arthur M. Stubbs was elected treasurer of both firms. The stockholders’ committee reported total paid in capital at 4.2 million dollars, split evenly between the two companies, with 1.1 million already invested in liquid collateral. About 1.5 million in balance was considered good, leaving 1.6 million doubtful or bad, from which some recovery may come. Depreciation estimates were 35 percent for Mutual and 40 percent for Commercial. Up to 259 trucks and 135 repossessed cars could be disposed of to reduce losses. Voting trustee H. V. Greene resigned February 11, with Powers, Parker, and Whipple named as replacements. Approximately 25,000 stockholders are involved.

Transfer Holliday to 3d Field Artillery

Major Ralph C. Holliday former inspector instructor for the 101st Infantry of the state National Guard is transferred to the 8d Field Artillery Regiment to serve in the same capacity. Colonel Thomas F. Foley presented Holliday with diamond cuff links at a regimental officers meeting. Holliday is a West Point graduate served overseas with the 1th Division and was cited for heroism in the Meuse Argonne offensive.

Daylight Saving Speakers Bureau Formed in Boston

The Boston Chamber of Commerce committee on daylight saving announced a speakers bureau under T. M. B. Hicks Jr. to provide talks on daylight saving. It will address women's clubs church groups and civic and commercial organizations.

United States Forest Service Chief Colonel William W.
