Sled crash on Broadway injures teens in Haverhill

A double runner sled carrying fourteen youths collided head on with a touring car at 9:30 p m. on Broadway in Haverhill. Nine injured, five serious, taken to Hale Hospital. driver Oliver Courchaine 17 and others suffered broken limbs and cuts. Police and fire crews responded quickly. authorities warn against rushing and sliding on streets when officers are away.

Two Men Attack Woman Then Set House Afire

Mrs Jager reports a dressed sailor type prowler knocked at her door asking for firemen and money. As she tried to lock the door two men forced in one restrained her while the other guarded the door. The assailants knocked her unconscious, then they carried kerosene to a bed and set it ablaze before officers arrived to rescue her.

Grand jury adjourns in Brandt case as testimony offered

New York Feb 16 Grand jury adjourned after hearing testimony on the imprisonment of Foulke E Brandt valet to Mortimer Schiff and the handling of letters and photographs seized in Brandt's room. Witnesses described a letter to Commissioner Bingham and Howard S Gans about exposing past acts of Lawrence de Foulke and urged court assistance in sentencing. Lieutenant Detective John Taylor applied for retirement on half pay after 26 years in the department. he is 62 years old.
