Ten Years With Kikamba Tribe Missionaries Return to Boston
The 8500 ton British steamship Bohemian arrived from Liverpool and Havre carrying 67 second class passengers and 3500 tons of Egyptian cotton and leather. Among them Rev. Arthur I Waechter and Mrs Waechter, longtime missionaries in British East Africa. They spent ten years there teaching the Kikamba branch of Bantu peoples, five of which were in their last stay. Their four Africa‑born children and the rest of the family plan to go to Detroit. Also aboard were Colonel Francis T. S. Hamilton, a Liverpool wholesale fruit dealer, and Miss Francis Propert, a London patroness associated with Eagle Hut and the London Overseas Club. The ship’s doctor, Dr William S Irwin, previously with the Amapol Arsenal, now with the American line Philadelphia, aided the voyage.
