Reformers and reactionaries shape 1920s U S politics
Norman Hapgood in a Temple Forum warns that Henry Cabot Lodge style reactionaries may push the United States toward war with Mexico and keep Russia under Bolshevik critique. He predicts Hoover or Lowden or Harding as Republican picks, while Democrats face slim chances. He urges noninterference in Russia and renewed trade with the Soviet state. He also notes Russian education progress and criticizes Allied policy toward Kerensky. The address blends foreign policy warnings with domestic electoral forecasts.
