Fr Brett Dies After Operation at Carney Hospital

The Rev. William P. Brett S J a longtime Boston College ethics and political economy professor died at Carney Hospital at 5 yesterday morning after a serious operation. He was regarded as one of the Jesuit order’s most brilliant members and his death is a loss to the order.

Funeral plans announced for body to be moved to church

Under present arrangements the body will be taken to the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Harrison Avenue today and placed in a chapel until funeral services tomorrow morning. Continued on Page 6 Seventh Column.

Mrs. Jane Arlin, mother of Eleanor Arlin who vanished from a Brookline boarding place on Jan 8, met with William FE English, secretary of the Massachusetts Hospital Reform Society, to discuss the case. English claims no definite knowledge but believes Eleanor is alive. a $500 reward remains.

Seven New Factories in Sight

Boston Mayor Curley announced seven large manufacturing concerns plan to build in Boston with an assessed value exceeding two million and a half dollars. The projects would create a payroll over one and a half million yearly and employ more than 2000 workers. Names of the firms were not released.

Murder at Robbins and Kibby Streets in Everett

Salvatore Renzulli, 32, Everett businessman, was shot and killed at the Robbins and Kibby streets corner last night. Police sought a man known only as John after an altercation with others of a different race, with the shooter believed unnamed.

Worst Fire Rips Through Montpelier Business Blocks

A blaze in Montpelier Vermont on February 15 gutted the Union block and damaged the Heaton and Dieter blocks. Estimated losses reach 175000 as high winds and extreme cold hindered firefighting. Kennedy State Treasurer Ends Life in Buffalo Hotel

John J. Kennedy New York State Treasurer died by suicide at the Markeen Hotel in Buffalo. He was found with his throat cut in a lavatory near the ballroom, a razor nearby. Officials cited temporary insanity from worry over an upcoming grand jury appearance in a graft probe led by District Attorney Charles S. Whitman. Kennedy had just been served with process and had been seen in good spirits after meeting friends and attending mass with his son before returning to his hotel room.

Temperature Plunges to Zero On Bitter Washington Street

The thermometer on Washington street fell seven degrees in the first hour of today reaching zero at 1 am. The midnight reading stood at seven above, and the drop signaled one of the coldest nights of the winter as the temperature continued to fall.
