Gloucester February 15 The schooner Elise M Smith which ran ashore during the storm was floated by tugs Startle and Evelyn but leaked badly and was beached to prevent sinking. Cargo of frozen herring valued around 4000 dollars likely a total loss with extensive repairs needed before service. It is hoped Ellen F F Gleason also ashore will be floated tonight with wrecking outfits sent from Boston.

Plymouth Strikes Ice Floe Halts Wall River Steamer

The Plymouth of the Wall River line was disabled by a large ice floe in the Hast River last evening. Ice crushed the starboard paddle-wheel causing a loud crash and breaking the wheel, with the port wheel failing shortly after. The vessel drifted mid stream until two tugs towed it to dock and most of the 300 passengers disembarked.

Frost Injures Orange Belt In Florida

The Associated Press reports from Jacksonville that a Monday night freeze covered Florida from Tampa to St. Augustine. Vegetables were generally killed and orange groves suffered major damage where protections were not used. Blossoms on blooming trees were killed and prospects for next fall’s crop are destroyed in a large portion of the orange belt.

The Weehawken rescued some Bulgaria passengers near the Azores and reports the ship likely sank. Eighty six crew and thirty passengers remained aboard as the vessel capsized and lost steering gear during a gale that began February first.

Savannah Ga Feb 15 Every member of the crew of the wrecked steamship William Lawrence was saved after severe hardships. Captain A L Willis and thirteen men were found on Hunting Island after twelve hours at sea in a blinding gale. They reached Port Royal after their boats were smashed and food and water ran out.
