Miller Named Brigadier General For Iliilo Victory

Col Marcus P. Miller of the Third Artillery is nominated by the President to brigadier general. Miller commanded the forces that captured Iloilo with no casualties and is honored for meritorious service. A Massachusetts native, he graduated from West Point in 1858 and served in the Civil War with distinction, receiving three brevets, later fighting Indians on the frontier.

Valencia Arrives in San Francisco with Soldiers on Board

The United States transport Valencia arrived in San Francisco after a thirty two day voyage from Manila. On board were sixty five soldiers with thirteen sent home on sick leave and the rest placed on furlough or discharged due to expiration of enlistment.
