An advertisement touts Pape's Cold Compound as a 25 cent remedy that ends grippe and severe colds within hours when taken every two hours for three doses. It claims no quinine and attributes the formula to years of research costing over fifty thousand dollars, with worldwide druggist availability.
The Morgan Memorial Church, central to the Morgan Memorial Co operative Industries and Stoyes group, celebrates being freed from debt. Rev. E. J. Helms leads a church with roots dating to Dr. Henry Morgan and a mortgage originally $60,000, now largely paid after years of work.
The House committee on foreign affairs will report favorably a joint resolution by Representative Gardner of Massachusetts to join the international council for the exploration of the sea. The council includes governments with large fishing industries and aims to study rapidly dwindling commercial fishes and propose permanent conservation measures.
Moving picture men filmed at the White House as Taft signed the Arizona statehood proclamation. They captured Taft at his desk, Secretary Hilles, and newspaper men, recording the event for future generations.
Firefighters in Brockton battled a blaze in the shack of Alex Unoc late today. After extinguishing the flames, they found Unoc's burned body inside. A neighbor said a man entered the shack earlier, and the victim, identified as Unoc, leaves a wife and children in Poland. Adameon's Balsam advertised.
In the packers trial H A Russell of Armour & Co admitted he sometimes ordered flat increases and reductions in dressed beef prices regardless of grade. He initially denied the practice but acknowledged it after a telegram showed a request to change margins. He said he acted on market conditions and denied reviewing weekly margins from Swift Morris and the National Packing Co. The examination paused as court recessed.
Annie M Reed Dr John D Ferguson and Miss Mary A ONeil were arraigned on new indictments charging them as principals or accessories in an illegal operation causing Marie A Bolduc's death. Ali pleaded not guilty. Bail set and posted. Trial set for Feb 26.
Dr David D. Scannell, former School Board member and surgeon, married Miss Elizabeth A. Macdonald, formerly superintendent of Boothby Surgical Hospital, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Brookside avenue Jamaica Plain. A wedding breakfast followed at 53 Peter Parley road before a week long honeymoon.
The Aero Club of New England hosts its first ladies night at the Hotel Somerset on Tuesday evening March 6. Mrs. David Todd and Mrs. H Holm Clayton will give principal addresses about air travel experiences including Halley’s comet observations from a balloon and a flight over Hoosier Mountain. Trophies won by aeronauts in the past year will be presented.
