Prisoners Bumpus and Tobey recaptured after 27 hours
Samuel Bumpus and Jerome Tobey escaped Barnstable jail last night and, after a 22 mile trek in a cold wind, were found in Menarhant and Falmouth by Constable David Nye. Keeper Letteney tracked them from Mashpee to Tobey’s aunt’s house before the arrest. Both men were returned to jail exhausted.
