Masterpieces of Iron Workers' Art at Scituate Farm

A Boston iron worker finishes the first of 15 wrought iron designs for Thomas W. Lawson’s Scituate farm. The rooster centerpiece will top the hen-house while other stables receive iron portraits of their occupants. Architect Coolidge & Carlson designed the pieces. Frederick Krasser crafts them by hand in his Utica street shop with the help of several skilled men. Krasser traces his training to Munich and Berlin, noting a shift from cast to hand-finished work as demand grows for artistic iron pieces.
