Callenders Bid to End Legislation Solicitation Today
Representative B B Callender of Boston reports he will testify before the judiciary committee today urging a bill that makes it a crime for legislators to solicit jobs from public service corporations and for the corporations to grant favors. He cites gas, telephone, telegraph, and street railway practices as reasons for such corruption and says some votes have failed to reflect merit. The Milton water issue resurfaced in the House via A A Brackett seeking repeal of Milton and Brush Hill Water Company charters so Milton can run its own system. Mr Leahy of Boston moved to replace an adverse public lighting report with a Breslin petition to bar gas deposit from consumers. the motion failed and the adverse report stood. Mr Hayes of Boston referred his bid for mayor by direct vote to the next General Court. The Senate agreed with the House to amend the memorial of Roger Wolcott by adding a clause about location within or on the State House grounds. The committee on cities reported favorably a Worcester bill to elect one Alderman from each ward and one Alderman at large.
