A state of stupor developed this afternoon leaving the senator unconscious. Oxygen and saline were used, with hopes then fading. He began to rally and rested a little tonight, but his condition remains critical.
Report from Tokio says two armies clashed on the Yalu River amid a major battle while Japanese fleet renewed attacks on Port Arthur. In Port Arthur, the Russian torpedo transport Yenisei was mined, with Captain Stepanoff, three officers and nine men lost.
The American steamer Pleiades, owned by the Boston Towboat Company, departed Port Arthur after sailing from Seattle on February 2 with a cargo of flour.
The British steamer Fu Ping was fired on by Russians while leaving Port Arthur. Three Chinese crew members were wounded. Russians apologized for the firing and the Fu Ping filed a protest with the British commissioner at Wei Hai Wei.
