Beverly Court Opens as Governor Names Prosector
The Senate swiftly cleared business in twenty five minutes and debated a liquor law bill appointing a governor named prosecuting attorney for Boston Municipal courts at three thousand dollars a year, to be paid by Suffolk County. The Legislature also reviewed various House bills, including penalties for stealing poultry and new provisions for auditing towns. Deputy Tax Commissioner Endicott presented tax apportionment data, showing increases in valuation and polls from 1886 to 1889, with detailed schedules for state and county taxes. Henry Faxon warned the liquor amendment would invite continued political meddling, quipping about angels and politics.
