The Tremont Theatre last night featured military night with Governor Wolcott and generals among a crowd from various state regiments. Cadet colors blended in a vivid display as officers and privates filled the house for the cadet theatricals and the play Simple Simon.
Fire raged through the western block packing room of the public works department damaging clerks offices and a records area. Loss estimated at 150000 with water shortages hindering suppression. By late night the MacKenzie annex and several departments were destroyed leaving charred walls and towers.
Vienna reports a Hungarian village where eighteen wives allegedly poisoned their husbands to free themselves for lovers. The tale says the killings created widespread panic among peasants and exposed rampant infidelity.
