Fish trade unchanged as lent season opens at pier markets
The first full week of Lent brought no relief to the fish trade. Prices remained high while supplies were scarce. Four vessels delivered large cargos including haddock, cod, hake, pollock, cusk, and scrod, with much of the catch iced for cold storage. Palm shipments from the South arrived aboard the Katahdin for Palm Sunday distribution. Other ships faced delays from gales and seas, and several vessels reported awaiting berths or further orders.

Protest on Marriage Bill Sparks Rallies in Boston
Two hundred members of the Boston Literary and Historical Association (colored) met at St Mark's Church to denounce a House bill making white colormarriages illegal in the District of Columbia. They vow to push resolutions to Massachusetts Congressmen and mobilize opposition in the Senate. W M Trotter introduced the united resolutions calling the Emancipation Proclamation’s anniversary a moment for equality, not caste at the national capital.
