Senate Opens With Depew Credentials and Independence Pledge

At today’s Senate session Chauncey M. Depew’s credentials were presented by Mr. Platt. Mr. Allen submitted a resolution affirming the Declaration of Independence principles as universal for all distinct societies. A Philippine policy vote was sought for next Monday, but was blocked by Mr. Mallory. Legislation included a $35,000 appropriation for a light and fog signal on Hog Island shoals in Narragansett Bay.

Amherst Junior Promenade Dances at Pratt Gym

The Amherst College junior promenade was held tonight in Pratt gymnasium with over 100 couples. Delegations included many Smith College women. Donald W. Fuerst Bismarck Disabled Delayed Near New York

News from New York reports the Hamburg American liner Fuerst Bismarck with over 500 aboard is nearly three days overdue. The ship sailed Genoa January 26 under Captain Albers with 52 cabin and 457 steerage passengers and about 350 crew and officers.
