Despatch from Captain Whitton reports the Pavonia disabled on February 5 at 41 44 in the Atlantic. Boilers faulty, towing attempt failed when the hawser parted, and the two ships lost sight of each other in a hurricane. The Pavonia sails with 47 passengers and about 112 officers and crew aboard.
The British steamer Pavonia, en route from Liverpool to Boston, suffered boiler trouble and began drifting in a hurricane off the Azores. The Colorado intercepted the disabled vessel, offered a tow, but the hawser parted in the storm. Captain Atkin is expected to bring Pavonia into port.
As of press time no definite news on the Pavonia condition. A brief cable says the Cunarder was sighted by the Colorado. Pavonia carries 47 passengers and about 11 crew with named officers aboard. Inquiries at the Boston Cunard office confirm no official notice yet. Continued on Page 2.
