San Bernardino Cal Feb 10 Francis Schlatter known as the Healer is arrested as a vagrant after a career that drew many to his cures and miracles. He disappeared from Denver after a night of snow and wandered through New Mexico before resurfacing in California.
The man calling himself Elijah was arrested on vagrancy charges in Redlands and placed in jail. He refused to reveal his identity, claimed to be Schlatter of Denver, and drew attention with a rock-breaking demonstration in the cell. Authorities consider seeking a pardon for his release. The 1895 Menver cures by touch are recalled as context.
A passenger train wreck near Crooksville Ohio injures eight and kills baggage master Thomas L. Fisher. The crash, at 11 AM, followed a partially open switch set by a section man. The engine and baggage mail car plunged 15 feet, injuring several in the smoking car.

A woman was assisted to her dressing room and an Emergency Hospital ambulance summoned. Doctors determined she struck the back of her head causing her chin to drop toward her chest with force. No chest injury was noted.
Attorney Norton sought a stay of execution for Shea from Justice Mayham in Schoharie claiming reasonable doubt on murder in the first degree charges. The judge denied the application.
Joseph Prescott 40 is jailed at Station 15 on assault with a hatchet against his wife Mrs. Prescott and Bridget Cullen 18 at 60 Chelsea Street. Both women, injured severely, are hospitalized at Massachusetts General. Mrs. Prescott faces possible death. Prescott confessed and gave motive tied to alleged money theft accusations. he was previously fined for disturbing the peace.
The 68 year old artist Max Eglau was found slain on the fourth floor of the Deaf and Dumb Institute at Lexington Avenue and Sixty seventh Street New York. He was last seen at noon and found near an iron shovel bloodstained after a fatal head wound.
A meteor bursting about twenty miles high over Madrid caused a brilliant flash and loud blast that shattered windows and shook buildings. Eli Stern a former Hoboken jeweller and Maud Turner a 16 year old skirt dancer were arraigned in Municipal Court on adultery and improper relations charges with Turner accused of illegally living with Stern. The case was continued to Feb 14 with both jailed in default of bail at Charles Street Jail. Becky Stern, wife of Stern, says they eloped from Brooklyn leaving her and baby with no money. Maud said she loved Stern and would follow him even to prison.
The entire eastern coast of Newfoundland is iced from Cape Bonavista to Cape Race. St. John's Harbor is sealed off from the outside world for ten days due to the heavy ice.
