London reports a border war escalation between Ulster and Ireland with raids across the frontier by armed Republicans over the past 24 hours. The situation raises fears of renewed sectarian violence and potential international intervention.
Malden Police Commissioner Frank D Stevens issued an order banning officers from flirting with women on the street from lingering on corners to chat among themselves and from spending long periods in shops on their beats and at public gatherings. The action follows numerous complaints received by the commissioner.
A blaze swept the two story wooden building at 1150 Columbus Avenue next to Roxbury Crossing police station last night. The fire routed sleeping officers and caused about 1500 dollars in damage, with Nolan's Restaurant nearby left with unserved meals.

Judge Lummus revokes a divorce granted to Mrs. Mildred R. O Keefe of New Bedford from James E. O Keefe after her co respondent role in a divorce suit by Helena Moquin. Moquin awarded custody and $4 weekly alimony. O Keefe’s prior decree canceled.
The Brookline police identify a woman known as Mabel Smith also called Mabel Norris and a male companion as the alleged ringleaders behind a Boston social media craze in 1919 over a celebrated jail sentence. The pair drew attention for shunning family names while facing public scrutiny.
A free-for-all fight broke out at Berkeley hall on Berkeley street after a man mocked a hat and kicked a shoe. Samuel Cohen, 21, of 23 Temple street, West End, suffered six stab wounds to his left back and was taken to City Hospital. Police seek the assailant, whom they claim to know. Cohen's friend Russell Mc Manus, of Roseclair street, Dorchester, was present.
R G Jones, superintendent of schools in Cleveland, declared that jazz music and all forms of emotional dancing must be abolished in the city’s public schools in a decree issued today.

Pope Pius XI conveyed through Cardinal O Connell a blessing to the United States praising its prosperity and peace efforts. He admires America’s vigor, hopes to welcome Americans to Rome, and notes Washington’s conference aiding world pacification and European aid.
In Rome on February 8 the new pope explained his choice of the name Pius to Cardinal Svaldi. He said he was born under a Pius and arrived in Rome under a Pius, and that Pius signifies peace, so he would adopt the name Pius.
Mrs Mary Lewandowski 38 and her daughter Sophie Kowalska 19 died within hours of each other at City Hospital. Sophie’s death was due to influenza and Mrs Lewandowski’s death will be autopsied today. Two other household members Walter Smolenski 29 and Stanley Lewandowski 42 are hospitalized. The apartments at 2 Sayward Place were quarantined by the health department as physicians investigate the puzzling illnesses.
Secretary Mellon announced that 400 million outstanding of tax exempt 33 1/4 per cent Victory notes will be redeemed at par on June 15. The conversion privilege of Victory notes will be suspended starting February 9 as part of the Treasury refinancing plan for short dated debt.
