Boston officials announce heatless Mondays will end after next Monday with improved weather and transport. Retailers object to longer morning hours and later closing times under revised Boston fuel committee rules, aiming to ease congestion on transit lines.

A man found with twelve sheets of coded letters confessed to being paid by the German government to supply spies in the United States. He reportedly received a large sum but would not name the recipients. Authorities note the suspect is a naturalized American of Dutch or German origin. The Portsmouth express departing North Station at 6 pm stalled near Castle Hill after a stag bolt blew out the boiler, filling the cab with scalding steam. John A. Woodry a 49 year old insurance expert with an office at 30 State street was killed in the Park street subway station before 6 pm last night. His wife, waiting for supper, learned of the fatal accident from George W. Bentley at 9 pm in the same apartment block.
Mr Woodry and others waited on a platform when a crowd pushed him toward the edge. He toppled forward as an outbound Lake street car approached and was run over by the rear wheels. He died at Relief Hospital before amputation could be performed.
