Reports say President Roosevelt is in serious condition as an infection spreads from the left ear to the internal ear and possibly the mastoid process. A noon change prompted a hurry call for specialists, with more operations likely.
New York February 7 Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, operated on Wednesday for fistula and ear abscesses, worsened at noon and is in serious but not critical condition. Specialists reported infection in his left ear, a detail previously deemed unimportant in the earlier bulletin.
Officials optimistic about a possible release of thousands of tons of coal in New England as warmer weather continues. Boston faces a near exhaustion of anthracite with hundreds of families burning soft coal and a shortage expected until Tuesday per city fuel administrator James B. Noyes.
The food administration announced pie and doughnut reinstatement on wheatless days if made daily from dough with at least one third wheat flour substitutes. Regimental Sergeant Major P F Healey of the 101st U S Infantry has been commissioned as a lieutenant and assigned to the headquarters company in France. He is a resident of Charlestown and lives at 42A Bunker Hill street.

Washington reports that due to cool courage and discipline of American troops aboard the torpedoed troop ship Tuscania, sunk off the north coast of Ireland, about 50 men of the American force are believed lost with hopes for a lower figure on further advices.
