Firemen's Ball Draws Thousands to Mechanics Hall

Several thousand attended the annual Boston Fire and Protective Department ball at Mechanics Hall in drizzling rain. The Boston Cadet Orchestra played from 8 to 9, Commissioner Russell and Chief Webber attended, and District Chief Williston A. Gaylord led the grand march with his daughter in law. Dancing continued until nearly 4 AM with Mayor Hart arriving around 11 PM.

Medical aid to Boer wounded ships from Boston

A Boston based report states that Tuesday evening will see a delegation of physicians and nurses depart for New York to join a Transvaal relief mission. A U S hospital corps with skilled doctors and nurses has been formed, carrying forty tons of medical supplies. Thompson, ex Secretary of the Navy and long time public figure, was known nationwide for his political work and as a noted smoker among public men.
