Landlady Allegedly Assaults Tenant in Lynn Apartment

Edward E. Egan of Lynn sues his landlady Mrs. Hannah Lomasney for 2000 in Salem court claiming she assaulted him on January 14 at his Amerty street apartments. He says medical costs followed. Lomasney, who also faced a $50 Lynn court fine for cuffing him with a slipper after visiting his building past 10 PM, is tied to the same residence.

Mrs Bond recounts loving her husband yet suffering repeated mistreatment including beatings and forced hospital visits. She says Mr Bond whipped by wrists once, denied ongoing bruising, while detailing temper fits and control. Judge Hall heard the case as evidence concluded and took it under advisement.

NOT FREE TO WED divorced Woman Six Weeks After Marriage

In East Cambridge Divorce Court Judge Hall granted an annulment petition after testimony that Arletta W. Pierce was not free to marry. Pierce, who wed under the name Arletta Browne Whitten in Somerville March 4, 1912, learned she was a divorced woman six weeks later. He learned she had previously married Robert W. Protts in Courtland New York in 1901, with a final decree permitting remarriage only after Protts’s death, and that she misrepresented herself as single. The court also announced three other decisions involving Boston Malden and Winthrop couples, including Joseph Cheesman’s child support agreement and divorces for Annie Spear and Mabel Daniels.

Harvard Men Skate on Charles River

Several hundred Harvard students enjoyed skating on the Charles river above the Bolyston street bridge in Cambridge yesterday afternoon for the first time this winter. Ice along the edge runs four inches thick in places and over two inches in the middle. A number of students from the South and Pacific coast, plus a few foreigners, witnessed and tried skating on natural ice for the first time in their lives.

Subway Settlement Delayed Over $300 Million Project

New York February 7 The settlement of the subway situation involving 300 million dollars for new underground transit service goes over until next week. Arguments on the injunction writ restraining signing of contracts for the dual system were concluded before the appellate division of the Supreme Court which reserved decision with no appeal to a higher court.

Hill pushes bill for nine member state news audit committee

Arthur D. Hill told the committee on legal affairs that no single paper yields all facts. He proposed a nine member panel appointed by the Governor to probe false or misleading news and suppression for political aims, and discussed a State newspaper. He spoke as Progressive party chairman.

Tunnel Toll Reduction Possible Without Supreme Court Action

Chairman John A. Sullivan of the Finance Commission told East Boston that tunnel tolls could be lowered when receipts plus rental exceed interest and sinking fund needs. He cited net toll receipts of 134,287 and rental of 57,000 totaling 191,287, vs 150,000 required, yielding a 41,287 surplus. He opposed toll abolition, warning of a 93,000 annual deficit for tunnel charges.

Clergyman Refuses to Name Prison Informant

The Rev. George Luther Cady of Dorchester told District Attorney Pelletier why he withholds the informant’s name. He stated the information came in his clerical capacity and he will not disclose who provided the information.

District Attorney Opts Not to Present Rev. Cady to Grand Jury

District Attorney Pelletier announced he would take no further action and that Rev. Mr. Cady need not appear before the grand jury to discuss knowledge of prison conditions. Cady stated he had not accused any official of graft and had denied knowledge of graft or corruption at the prison. He met Pelletier twice yesterday in consultations at the DA's office.
