William L. Griffin of South Weymouth, a noted amateur athlete, was instantly killed skating backwards on Loud's Pond. He tripped and broke his neck, just minutes after joking he would die by such an accident.
Griffin a % year old youth and athlete fell on a pond while skating with Frank Hanson and Fred Abele. He skated from the group to perform figures and tragically died after tripping. He was son of Albert P D Griffin of 30 Highland Place South Weymouth and longtime catcher for the Union Athletic Club.
Paris reports Mme de Thebes, famed for war forecasts, predicts a great Allied victory in March and that the war will end in September. She also says the Kaiser will have a tragic end and will probably suicide this year.
Miss Geraldine Farrar, noted soprano and movie queen, arrived at her New York home at 18 West Seventy-fourth Street after a Boston recital. She and husband-to-be Lou Tellegen did not comment on their expected marriage plans set for Tuesday at her home.
