Opposition to Navy Yard Removal in Legislature Hearing
In a legislative committee hearing on federal relations, critics led by William H. Brown Leonard Chadwick and Charlestown yard employee Mr Poole urged against the Narragansett plan to abandon Charlestown and Brooklyn yards. They cited a $100,000,000 valuation of the plants and potential losses to the Commonwealth of $4,000,000 to $5,000,000, plus military risks from losing the only government station on the north Atlantic coast. Brown noted 2389 Charlestown workers and Brooklyn yard staffing over 4000.
