Millionaire George Curtis Dies in Roxbury at 74 Highland Street

George Curtis, Boston magnate and father of the ex mayor, died at his Roxbury home after a yearlong paralysis. Born Sept 3, 1817 in Westminster, he built a $2.6 million estate with $1 million in bequests. His career spanned carpentry, business interests, and public service, including three terms on the Board of Aldermen and a run for the state Senate.

Alderman George Curtis a Loyal Roxbury Figure in Politics and Business

George Curtis, longtime Roxbury figure, built a lumber and building career after an accident. Fire Claims Twenty Horses In Cambridge Stable

A Cambridge blaze on Bent Street early today destroyed a two story frame stable owned by P Libby and occupied with W B Cobb and J Lute. Twenty horses burned alive. Libby lost four, Cobb eleven, Lute five, plus feed, harnesses, wagons. Building loss estimated at 1000 dollars and contents at 4000 dollars. Cause not stated.

Senator Hayes in critical condition at City Hospital

Senator James E. Hayes remains in a grave condition at City Hospital with no change for over twelve hours. Doctors say his chance of recovery is less than one in a hundred as many inquiries flood the hospital during the day.
