Belmont Hero Saves Two From Icy Brook Accident

Frank R. Thompson of 68 Garrison street West Somerville risked his life by diving into the icy Alewife brook near Little Pound in Belmont yesterday afternoon. He rescued George Wellman 14 son of Herbert Wellman of 87 Brighton street and Ernest H Frothingham 13 son of Clarence M Frothingham of 83 Brighton street.

Boys risk life on thin pond ice rescue by Thompson

Four youngsters ventured to a snow covered pond and then a frozen brook. Wellman and Frothingham slid on the ice and fell into the water as the ice cracked. Thompson, nearby on Brighton street, pulled Frothingham onto a plank and dragged Wellman to shore after breaking the ice with a plank.

Gunman shots strike crowd kill and wound in Rochester

Valentine Sauter owner of a clothing shop on Clifford Avenue fired a shotgun into a demonstrator crowd during the garment workers strike. A girl was killed and three persons were wounded as the violence continued after a February afternoon rally.

Sauter Gunfire at Shop Kills Teenager in Strike Riot

About 700 strikers gathered at Sauter’s shop to press walkout. Stones were thrown and Sauter fired from a second floor window, killing Ida Braeman, 17. A woman and two men were wounded. Sauter charged with first degree murder. arrests for rioting expected. James McManus urged mediator meeting to settle strike issues.
