Athletic success linked to Brown University enrollment gains
Brown University saw a large rise in registrations from 1889 to 1896, rising from about 280 to near 900, with baseball championships in 1896 and 1898 and a runner up finish in 1900. Dean Meiklejohn notes Harvard’s president doubts athletic influence, but Brown’s experience suggests victories may aid enrollment, though certainty is avoided.
