Boston officials announced a continuation of the coal delivery embargo to stores offices and factories for another 48 hours due to dwindling reserves. The fuel committee met at the State House after reports of a 7000 ton drop in three days amid strict consumption limits.
Chairman A Ellis of the Boston fuel committee called the conference yesterday to tend the restrictions. He spoke last night after ting, with limited details on Page 11 First Col.
Incendiary fire at 288 Shawmut Avenue last night destroyed an unoccupied three story building. Two men, believed perpetrators, were seen fleeing before alarms sounded. The building, owned by Jacob Saunt of Roxbury, had stood empty about a week. neighboring houses and residents were stirred by the blaze.
Licensing of bakers extended to thousands of small bakeries, hotels, and clubs doing their own baking. The move broadens oversight while preserving local control and health standards.
President Wilson extended licensing rules for bakers to include hotels restaurants and clubs that bake on site thousands of small bakers previously exempt and all bread cake crackers biscuits pastry and other bakery products. The proclamation also licenses importers and distributors of green coffee to curb speculative pricing in coffee markets.
The new licensing rule takes effect February 4. Bakers currently licensed for using at least 10 barrels of flour monthly must cut to a maximum of three barrels under the post rule.
Frank W. Merrick, treasurer of the United Improvement Association, accused the Boston Licensing Board of using star chamber hearings before public petition hearings. The testimony before the State House committee on legal affairs addressed bills to change notice postings and permit public hearings for proposed licensed locations. Supporting and opposing figures included Benjamin Lane Raymond Delano former Senator Sanford Bates Rev Edward P. Gaylord Claude Allen and William Weld.

Miss Daisy L Oliver owner of a wet wash laundry found money in a customer’s bag and returned it after contacting a local resident who had lost funds. Chief Milmore and Patrolman McNamara recovered the money and restored it to James Saviano at the police station.

Additional Socialist leaders in various German towns have been arrested because of their activities in fomenting strikes or by reason of their hostile attitude toward the policy of the militaristic elements with regard to peace and franchise reform.
Fair and increasingly colder conditions expected in Boston and vicinity Friday with light northwest winds. Saturday shows continued fair weather. In northern New England a Friday Saturday fair stretch with little temperature change. Southern New England and eastern New York also see fair skies and slightly lower temperatures Friday into Saturday.
The ad markets heavy storm overcoats and fur collar coats at reduced prices. It offers $25 coats for $12.91 and $15 overcoats for $7.90. Washington corner Hanover Street store promotes $18 and $20 suits at $9.90 and mid-winter selections in melton and cheviot varieties.
Secretary Daniels told the House naval committee that contracts for several scores of new submarine fighters have been placed with Ford Motor Company in Detroit. The vessels, about 200 feet long, are described as halfway between destroyers and submarine chasers and include the latest anti submarine tech.
All ship sections except engines are to be built in Detroit and shipped to the seaboard for final assembly. The Ford plant will undergo changes to permit the hand assembly process at the destination.
