A fire across three wooden tenements at Fifth and B streets in South Boston saved nine babies. Flames spilled from the roof as firemen battled smoke filled stairwells, pulling two Cure children from 47 Fifth Street, two Cavanaugh children from 50 B Street, and Mc Donough child from 48 B Street before the blaze reached the rooms.
Fire broke out on the third floor of 47 Fifth street in a storage room near the McDonough home. The blaze spread to 50 B street and 48 B street as residents, especially mothers, fled with babies.
