Defence Claims Point Scored In Small Murder Trial
Frederick L. Small of Boston, tried in Ossipee New Hampshire for his wife’s murder, faced testimony by witnesses who described him as a wife beater. A witness testified Small kicked his wife and rushed him with uplifted arm. Helen Conner said Small remarked he “has to take the axe to her” after a compliment on cooking. Other witnesses cited brutality and swearing at the wife. The state says he shot and strangled her on Sept. 28 and then staged a fire to destroy evidence, with further threats to kill to be presented.
