Washington reports that Great Britain and Germany have formed an offensive and defensive commercial alliance against the United States. The nations, according to information received, are grumbling over Panama tolls and alignment against U S interests.
A wireless message reports the Dutch steamer Tasman ashore on Bramble Cay in the Gulf of Papua with many passengers. Included aboard are Alva Adams of Colorado and Thomas G. Stallsmith of California, both Panama-Pacific exposition commissioners touring Australia. Mme. Nordica is also on the Tasman.
Ferdinand B. Almy executor of the Russell estate and his family occupy the large Russell homestead in Russell Park Melrose. Neighbors say the move aims to create a homelike atmosphere for Fresno Dan who returns from the West for William C Russell funeral. Rumors say Fresno Dan's money concerns and disputes with the estate may fuel his absence from Melrose and selective train use.
Richard W. Curran an 18 year old cripple living at 193 Holyoke Street West Lynn died after taking carbolic acid in his bedroom. He sent his 3 year old sister to fetch medicines including the poison hidden in his wheelchair. His note claimed he could not bear to be a burden and wished to die.
Mrs Otto Kokonen, a Finnish immigrant, allegedly shot her husband at Snow Falls and then shot herself, dying hours later in a hospital with a baby in her arms. Kokonen died from his wounds, while Mrs Kokonen remained in critical condition with unknown outcome. Jealousy is cited as the motive.
Frederick A. Chubb and Miss Mary E. Chandler announce a reconciliation after years of public dispute over the baby Eleanor May Chubb and estate control. Chandler accuses lawyer J. Butler Studley and Louis D Brandeis of undue influence while Chubb vows joint defense against Mrs Chubb’s allegations of extortion and seeks restored control of Chandler’s estate.

Custodians at Franklin Park Zoo search for the person coaching Oswald the big green parrot. The parrot shouted Votes for Women during a crowd outside the bird cages and laid an egg at sunset. Oswald is renamed Irene after the event.
Governor Foss defends Robert A. Woods appointee to Boston’s license board saying he drinks like any other and will handle liquor questions in a broad, fair manner. He rejects liquor interests’ fears and predicts Woods will surprise opponents with effective enforcement and reform. Potential Harbor and Land Commission candidate names are noted.
An overheated flue caused a fire that evacuated 500 guests from the Quincy and Crawford Houses and heavily damaged the R Marston Company building at 19 23 Hanover Street where the blaze began. Patrons fled into the street as flames licked outward and hotel guests were warned in the early hours, though the exits proved unnecessary.
An early Sunday fire at 130 Silver Street South Boston started when an oil stove overturned in the tenement of Mrs Josephine A Buckley. The blaze was quickly put out and James OConnor was taken to City Hospital with slight burns to his body and hands.
A 10 year old boy, Arthur Peplipz, sparked a closet blaze with a lighted match, igniting clothing and destroying the house on 5A Bradford street. The fire threatened adjoining buildings and caused about $5000 in damages to the Pep Lipz and neighboring David A. Howe family. The elder Peplipz stopped the flames from spreading further before firemen arrived.

Sir Ernest Shackleton announces in a Times letter his plan to lead a 1914 expedition from a South American port to cross the South Pole continent from sea to sea and return via New Zealand. He says the venture is funded by a generous friend and will be named The Imperial Transatlantic Expedition.
Lincoln Beachey completed six loops at 200 feet over San Francisco bay to set a new world aviation record. He had already looped six times Christmas day and performed an upside down flight prior to today's feat.
