Lawrence lads Stillman DeWolff and Matthew McAvoy both 12 drown in the Spicket River. Arthur Walton 12 of Pawtucket and Carl Meyer of West Roxbury are named among others in the drowning incident. Local authorities investigate the accident and identify the missing youths.
In Methuen shortly before 8 pm, two boys skating on the river behind the Nevins estate fell through ice. Two companions with them also broke through but were rescued by nearby skaters. the two youths drowned. Names of the other boys are not yet known.
Four youths skating up a river from the town's west side fell through thin ice. McAvoy and DeWolff were lost beneath the surface while two others reached thicker ice. Police and rescuers searched until night and planned to resume in the morning. McAvoy's aunt at 356 Lowell Street and DeWolff's mother Matilda DeWolff at 98 Margin Street grieved as officials investigate.
A 12 year old boy Arthur Walton of Hancock Street drowned while skating on Stump Hill Pond in Pawtucket R I. His body was recovered and his companion was rescued by Henry Carpenter who was fishing nearby this evening.
Carl Meyer 13 of West Roxbury plunged through ice while skating with four friends in Harringtons Cove. A hockey stick rescue failed as he sank before rescuers reached the edge. Body recovered by Dedham police and sent to the Meyer home.
Rain is expected Friday with brisk easterly winds. Saturday brings partly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures for Boston and surrounding areas.

Deputy Rice and Medical Examiner Chamberlain oversaw autopsy and sample delivery to Cambridge for analysis. Dr J P Bixby maintains delirium tremens as the cause with no other illness evident.

Two desperate foot pads attacked George B. Wendrick a Springfield and New Haven athlete and newspaper man on Tranckock avenue near the State House. They slashed his face and head with four inch cuts, were repelled only by nearby pedestrians, and fled after a frightening confrontation. Wendrick, then in Boston advertising, had been in New Haven before returning via Beacon Chambers. The incident follows a staged drunken distraction near Park Street Church and the common mall.
District Attorney Moran denounces the Boston Police Board as petty and quibbling, calling their conduct absurd and unfit for office. He states he will not oppose licenses unless law violations occur and includes a sharp dismissal of the commission’s positions.
