The East Boston tunnel is formally opened today with an 11 a.m. procession from Scollay Square to Maverick Square. At 6 p.m. Governor Bates and others will travel through the tunnel to East Boston, followed by a 7 p.m. banquet in Music Hall with speeches. The tunnel opens to the public at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow.
Willie Doran, kidnapped from the Home for Destitute Catholic Children, was located last night in a Union Park Street lodging house and returned to the Harrison Avenue home. A woman named Kate Scott is detained at Station 5 for questioning after officers traced the boy to her room and forced entry when she tried to flee.
Last night two steamers were driven to pieces, one near Diamond Shoals off Hatteras and the other off Fire Island beach New York. At least 50 men aboard across both ships are feared lost. The Drumeizier, with 33 men, has battered the Fire Island coast since Christmas morning and cannot be reached due to heavy seas. The Diamond Shoals vessel’s exact name is unknown, but it carries 20 to 25 men and is alternately beam ends as waves wash over her.
John A. Ricker, 40, a chef, shot his wife Helen in their Sullivan Street room last night at 8:15. The body lay face down in a pool of blood with a 32 caliber revolver on the bed. Ricker fled toward Chelsea Bridge, shouting "She is all in" and "And I did it" before being captured by Patrolmen Allen and Crockett. Motive appears jealousy. the couple had separated recently after years of conflict. The wife worked at Gild Robbin's on Main Street. they married in Brockton 11 years ago.
Local forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for fair skies and a drop in temperatures on Thursday. Winds from the northwest will ease, with daytime highs near the upper 30s to low 40s and overnight readings near the mid 20s.
A battered unknown steamer lies eight miles off Cape Hatteras on the Inner Diamond Shoals, with faint life signs signaling onshore to the coast guard. Heavy seas prevent surfboats from approaching as winds and fog slowly ease. The steamer appeared distressed when the weather lifted earlier today, and later reports show she grounded on the inner shoals.

Orestes A. Weed of Brookline and Benjamin J. Riley of Springfield took morphine at the Grand Union Hotel New York Tuesday night in a death pact. Weed died at Bellevue Hospital yesterday. Riley was revived after difficulty and is expected to recover.
Riley told the coroner that he and Weed, his childhood friend, planned to die by morphine after a period of two downbeat years. They traveled from Boston to New York, bought poison at a drug store, spent time in theatres, drank heavily, and each took a dose in their hotel room late at night.
Benjamin J. Riley of Springfield and Orestes A. Weed of Boston travelled to New York to commit death by own action together. Weed died at Bellevue Hospital, Riley survived and is held on a charge as autopsy plans delay body release to Mrs Weed for burial in Boston.
Orestess A Weed died by his own hand in New York yesterday. He and his family lived at the Empire Hotel 1471 Beacon street Brookline. Mrs Weed, holding their five weeks old infant, received a telegram announcing the accident. A nurse described Mrs Weed’s reaction as she reeled along the floor. Continued on Page 9 Seventh Column.
