Roosevelt Speaks on the Future of History and Nation
After a Roosevelt speech at Symphony Hall and a Copley Plaza reception, he urged a fusion of history and literature. He argued historians must render ordinary life, trace gradual change and great upheavals, and show how past events shape present nations, especially Russia and Europe, while envisioning America’s future.

New Haven Criticised By Prouty At ICC Hearing
Chairman Charles A. Prouty urged the New Haven to provide more reliable train service, saying punctuality matters more than dispatch. He hinted at possible dissolution of the New Haven Boston & Maine tie, as the ICC's hearing on poor service continued. The commission requested weekly October to December on time arrivals at Boston New Haven Portland and White River Junction with delay causes and a rate comparison with outside regions. It also probed New Haven control over Merchants and Miners and noted a 1907 agreement granting equal directorate representation. About 100 steel cars had been ordered since 1910. Hearing resumes at the federal building tomorrow at 10 o'clock.
