Two Women Struck by Auto Near Commonwealth Ave

Mrs. Albert D. Bosson and Mrs. Frank T. Partridge were seriously injured when an automobile, number 49500 owned by James W. Hawkes, struck them at Dartmouth Street and Commonwealth Avenue. Hawkes was detained and later released. both victims hospitalized or at home with serious injuries.

New York December 26. Hans Schmidt on trial for murder of Anna Aumuller faced testimony from four alienists who testified he was shamming insanity. After their hours of testimony both sides rested, a judge's adjournment to 10 tomorrow followed, with each side allotted 90 minutes to sum up.

John Bostick, a youthful bandit, halted the Sunset Limited at El Monte on December 1 to aid a Los Angeles hotel chambermaid he hoped to flee with. He killed railroad official Horace E. Montague as he entered a Pullman car, an act that disrupted his plan for the girl now said to be in Phoenix. He told Sheriff Hammel he needed funds for the woman and planned to return to Los Angeles for a getaway once the uproar subsided.

Telephonists Injured In Head-On Car Collision

Forrest E Tarr and Benjamin J Mahoney officials of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company were thrown through a broken windshield when their car collided with an electric car in Haverhill. Mahoney said the trolley searchlight blinded him causing the crash. No trolley passengers were hurt.

Malden's 98th Birthday Walker Completes Half Mile

Charles C. Cox Malden's oldest male resident celebrated his 98th birthday yesterday by walking half a mile from his home at 29 Prescott Street to Malden Square. He was greeted by friends as he used a cane for a sore ankle and slight deafness.

Dinner for Old Salts at Boston Seamen’s Home

About 150 seamen, many from distant homes, joined a large dinner at the Boston Port and Seamen's Aid Society home at No. 11 North Square. The evening included a Christmas entertainment and sixty baskets of sailor's necessaries were distributed.

Woman Missionary Official Found Dead in Dayton Home

Mrs. George H. Thompson of Cincinnati, national treasurer of the Women's Missionary Society, was found dead in her daughter's Dayton home during holiday visit. She had traveled from Cincinnati to spend Christmas with her daughter, wife of Dayton Journal and Dayton Herald publisher E. G. Burkam.

Manchester N H December 26 George S Burns address unknown arrested this afternoon charged with several railroad robberies. On his person were found 22 mileage books stamped at Bath Me station of the Boston and Maine railroad.

Fire Destroys Dorchester Centre House Forcing Family Escape

A blaze started in a garret closet, possibly by rats with matches, heavily damaged the frame house at 27 Kerwin Street Dorchester Centre. Owner Charles L. Smith his wife and seven children fled to the street while tenants Mr and Mrs Tred Donohue on the first floor escaped.

Gem Robbery Mystery Returns Loot By Mail

Jewels valued at 1200 belonging to Mr and Mrs George A Merrill were stolen from their Madison apartments at 1098 Washington Street two weeks ago. Part of the stolen property appeared in the mail the next day, leaving East Dedham street police with no tangible evidence to advance the case.

Jewelry theft suspected in Mrs Merrill’s residence

Police report that Mrs Merrill showed jewels to friends on Wednesday December 10 and later found a burglary on Friday December 12 after missing a latchkey kept in her church coat. A mailed box with a diamond brooch and two rings identified as hers arrived next day, but three other pieces remain missing.

Smith Loses Last Appeal in Boston Mayoral Bid

Councilman Earnest K. Smith's bid for mayor of Boston ended when Judge Sheldon of the Supreme Judicial Court dismissed his petition for a writ of mandamus to force certification of his nomination papers. The Board of Election Commissioners found a paper unsigned and others signed with initials only as the filing deadline passed.
