Turnverein Boston Celebrates Christmas at Turn Hall

The Boston Turnverein held a Christmas Day event at Turn Hall Middlesex Street. At 4 pm a children’s festival for 250 youngsters ran to about 6:20 with Knecht adage as the central play. Beforehand there were musical pieces by Fraunstein Kaufman Laws and other performers. gifts followed, with Chris Eberhard as president and officers Eber, Kalmus, Schubert, Selling, and Eers involved in organizing.

Christmas in five acts staged with child leads

Uiknecht Rupprecht presented a five act Christmas production led admirably by participating children. Principal players included Ambersger Lubmann Henry Ufman Erich De Beuve Mabel Laws Goodman Elsie Woermle Olga Jung Michael Max Stuber Moses and Walter Eberhard. The play ended with a sung version of O Tannenbaum.

Christmas Gift Drive At Boys Home

Yesterday the Boys' Home held a festive day as hundreds of gifts arrived for the 200 Boys. Fathers Ford and Malley addressed the boys at mass and spoke of the work of Father Ford over thirteen years.

White Shield Cantata at Willards Settlement

Members of the White Shield enjoyed an evening at Willards Settlement Myrtle Street. The hall filled by 8 o clock with a decorated tree and presents for teachers and members. A cantata delighted the girls, followed by roll-call and gift distribution. officers listed include President Annie Henry and vice president Lucy Romberg.

Salvation Army Dinners Bring Holiday Cheer and Gifts

A Salvation Army event hosted a large Christmas dinner with Mayor Hart and Governor Crane in attendance. Volunteers served meals to thousands, with a tree ceremony, gifts for children, and a parade of floats to tenement districts. Each guest received a Christmas card, fruit, and a War Cry issue as they left. Visitors included Miss Willie Elizabeth eer, hailed as the Hellen Keller of the Southwest.

Seamen Celebrate Christmas Aboard British Steamers in Port

British steamers in port marked Christmas with meals and merriment for crews. Cunarders and others gave extras including turkey beef gravy ale grog and duff. Boston marketmen aid Chelsea veterans with Christmas dinner

Market men from Boston outside Faneuil Hall and adjacent markets organized a Christmas dinner for 378 veterans at the Chelsea Soldiers Home. Two long tables served turkey pies puddings and a decorated lamb centerpiece. The gift of the England Provision Company of Boson. Evening entertainment followed in Peter Smith Hall with neckties and playing cards for each veteran.

Christmas Day at the House of the Angel Guardian

The House of the Angel Guardian held a Christmas Day schedule with midnight mass in the chapel led by the boys choir directed by Louis Christiani, followed by a light collation. High mass was said at 7 am by Rev. J. M. Levesque, and at 2 pm vespers and benediction occurred. Boys and associates spent the day visiting with relatives or friends in Boston and nearby areas and the rest of the holiday in the yard and play rooms.

Approximately six hundred men were fed with hot roast beef potatoes coffee fruit pies and other fare in abundance. Chelsea Wedding for Ray Cauman and Isaac Wolper

Miss Ray D. Cauman daughter of Mr and Mrs Kalman Cauman of Chelsea wed Isaac Wolper a Chelsea merchant at Revere Town Hall yesterday afternoon. Rabbis Margolis and Adelman presided at 4:30 with about 200 guests from Hebrew society in Chelsea Boston Montreal and elsewhere. Manuel Garfinkle was best man and Miss R Sassenmeyer maid of honor. Last evening in Symphony Hall the Handel and Haydn Society presented the second Messiah performance with the same chorus orchestra and conductor as last Sunday but different soloists. Miss Adelaide Griggs impressed as contralto and Willis Batcheller as tenor gave notable solo work. Jessica De Wolf and J B Baernstein received strong audience response though not flawless. Verdi Requiem is announced for Sunday February.

Hotels showed unusually low occupancy as Christmas approached with arrivals averaging near zero. Clerks and staff lounged idle while a handful of private dinners occurred at the Thorndike and the Parker House hosted Colonel Adams and friends.
