Rear Admiral Francis M. Bunce, memorialized for long service, retires and will retain command at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until Washington issues orders. In Berlin New Hampshire a large pulp mill and shed were destroyed when a fire swept through the complex. seven workers were trapped under a shed roof and severely burned before rescue.
