West bound Chesapeake and Ohio Express from Richmond struck a freight train near Millboro at 12 03 A M. Five men were killed and two wounded. In Greenscastle Indiana Mrs Mira J Osborn and her 17 year old son Ollie were found dead in their sleeping apartments this morning. It is believed the mother poisoned her son and then killed herself after long despondency and a wish to die. Bodies appeared to have lain about two weeks. She was said to be well off financially.
A large gathering in Loxpon last night organized funds to relieve Ireland’s distress as clergymen including Archbishop Croke warned of famine. The motion urged government steps to avert starving Irish citizens, while reports noted prosecutions and political tension across Ireland and Europe.

The Swedish Ladies Benevolent Swedish American and Scandinavian societies held a grand Christmas festival at Odd Fellows hall in Boston. Afternoon children's entertainment ran 3:30 to 7 with games and gifts from Tonite Nisse at a decorated tree. Evening dancing 5 to 2 with Dick's orchestra featured Swedish dances and a unique Scandinavia America banner above the platform.

J J Chapman of 15 Tufts Street Cambridge reported a burglary at his home. John Kennedy surrendered at the station claiming guilt and was placed in a cell. He attempted suicide Monday evening with a shirt cord but was stopped by Capt. Folsom. His wife is employed as a servant in Chapman's household. He is thought to be of unsound mind.
In Canastota at noon, G. W. Gates assisting Miss Emagine Lewis hung a chandelier when a revolver fell from Gates pocket and discharged a bullet into Miss Lewis neck, killing her almost instantly.
A Madison Square company staged Hazel Kirke at the Park last evening drawing five hundred plus patrons. The production featured Dunstan Kirke Mercy Kirke and Hazel Kirke with strong turns by Miss Turner and Mr Howard. Critique notes Miss Turner shows promise though not as seasoned as Miss Elister, while Mr Howard delivers a clever Vitticus. The ensemble, including Miss Gilman Mark Price and others, received praise though some actors show minor weaknesses. the stage setting and costumes were noted as especially handsome.
A large crowd attended Monday at Walnut Hill range from 9:30 A. M. to 4:50 P. M. The day was sunny but windy and dazzling at times, yielding poor scores. Company K first regiment and Company H eighth regiment used one target all day and performed well amid the gusty wind. Several fair scores arose in spite of the challenging weather during the best-dressed matches.
