It contrasts Eastern schools with few working-class students due to cost, while Western colleges often charge little or no fees, letting poor or working youths study. Many eminent men started teaching early, sometimes in trades or schoolrooms, helping them reach professions or research, while higher teaching remains comparatively cheap and accessible. Strong emphasis on access and social mobility through university study.
