In New York on December 23, the blaze at the Brooklyn orphan asylum left charred remains being cleared rapidly. Police located several previously missing orphans, but about 26 boys remain unaccounted for as the funeral for the victims of the fire is scheduled for tomorrow.
Richard Coyle a fresco painter died at his Bridgeport residence aged 45 after two years of illness. His bones reportedly turned chalky and he could barely move in bed. his family is left destitute. Bridgeport tax assessors value the Barmyin London circus wintering there at 250000 with buildings listed at 6000. show claimed cost over 1000000 and lights not yet installed.
Philadelphia dispatch reports Arlin, recent seizure target of customs in Chicago, may be the widow of John McLaughlin, brother of F A McLaughlin and part owner of the Philadelphia Times. Frank McLaughlin says she likely died in Europe and that the family has had no knowledge of her whereabouts since.
The Maine governor and council met in session with RE C Brett of Bangor confirmed as municipal court judge. A report on state house extension and town valuations is promised tomorrow. The Granite Citys defeated Bijons 3 to 0. In the Burns murder trial, counsel argued, the judge charged, and the jury returned a manslaughter verdict after nine fifteen.
In LaAitrorp Conn on December 23 Judge Hickman heard a motion for a preliminary injunction in Gold and Stock Telegraph Co v Commercial Telegram Co over the right to use the Field ticker instrument. Roscoe Conkling appeared for the defense with S A Duncan. Dickerson Thurston & Dickerson appeared for the plaintiff.
Haven Conn December 25 By order of Mayor Lewis the Salvation army in New Haven was arrested tonight Three men and two women were taken to police headquarters charged with parading the streets without a license The warriors held a celebration at the police office and prayed for the officers and the mayor The women were bailed out but the men slept in the lock up City officers had long threatened to arrest the army but previously proceedings amounted to nothing
In Philadelphia on December 23 Judge Butler denied a request to refer claims by Isaac P Hazard and others against Credit Mobilier and Thomas C Durant in Rhode Island to an examiner for expense assessment. The order was refused because the Rhode Island suit remains pending.
New Haven December 25 Dr F G Welch who was arrested in New York for sending objectionable material through the mails was never a member of Yale college medical faculty. He ran the Yale gymnasium for years ending about 1872 and studied at the Yale medical school but did not graduate. He had no other connection with the college.
Rudolph Schicke, former book keeper for J. W. McFadden & Co in Cincinnati, was charged today with a defalcation exceeding $1000. After receiving permission to use the water closet he returned dead, having swallowed cyanide of potassium. He was to be married tomorrow.
Emma Kitzmiller died in Philadelphia after relying on faith healing. She and her family belonged to a group called the heavenly recruits. An inquest heard a physician testify that proper remedies in time would have helped her.
In Southampton county a dispute between Wilson Davis and Dick Joyner led to Joyner striking Davis on the head with a jag. Davis died from his injuries. Joyner fled the scene. The quarrel centered on a disputed 10 cent walking cave claim.
A Massachusetts friend of General Benjamin F Butler says he has signed a contract with a New York firm to pen his political reminiscences. The work will be in two volumes and Butler will receive 50 600 plus a small royalty.

Springfield Mass December 23 William H Murray a Pittsfield wool dealer has summoned his creditors who formed a committee led by W Bowerman to investigate the affairs. Liabilities are said to reach 20000 dollars with assets not yet estimated.
The annual Coli. Mapleson benefit at the Academy of Music in New York tonight netted 14050 dollars. Semiramides was produced with Madame Patti and Scalchi in leading roles, Scalchi proving the favorite with the audience.
From VirvenunG Pennsylvania on December 23 reports indicate the miners’ strike is failing. In the second pool many miners refuse to strike while in the third and fourth pools a majority intend to return to work.
Fall River Mass. December 23 There was a considerable disturbance at the Salvation Army meeting tonight resulting in a lively fight. One man was arrested. It was the most serious disturbance during the army's meetings here.

The Senate passed a naval appropriation bill with amendments, increasing certain bureau appropriations and prompting house acceptance or no federal naval funding this session.

Attendance nears 2900, Christmas holidays slow sales as organizers expect a large influx of excursionists tomorrow from Nebraska Minnesota and Indiana totaling about 5000 including many school teachers.
Cleveland rolling mill shut down Sunday night affecting about 1000 workers. The plant, one of the country’s largest, may close the entire mill soon, with nearly 4000 employed across departments. In Amsterdam New York carpet mills two workers refused a 1 1 2 percent cut and mills closed. Three thousand idle in town. In Pittsburg Wilson Walker Co owners announce a 10 percent wage cut starting January.
Deputy U S Marshal Johnston with Sheriff Cummins and Deputy Pelham returned from Wilmot with Houghty Deeves Knudson and Boyes charged in a mail overhauling case. The adjutant general arrived to discuss troop support. Johnston said Wilmot was filled with armed men and warned the sheriff not to use force, but to wait for troops.
In Toronto on December 23 a French boarder named Poqnel, described as an infidel, denied eternal punishment in a discussion with fellow boarders and suddenly suffered paralysis over his entire body including the tongue, losing vitality.
Gov. Cleveland hosted a private social reception for about three hundred guests in Albany. Only city and Buffalo friends were invited, with many officials and their spouses attending. The elegant event ran from 9 to 12, featuring a band, dancing, a formal guest presentation by Gen. Farnsworth and Col. Wheeling West Virginia December 23 reports a second brutal robbery by masked highwaymen in three days. In the west end six men beat the Worken family, stealing about 5000 dollars in gold.
