Westphalia Quarantine Vessel Arrives With 1100 Passengers

The steamer Westphalia, which reached quarantine yesterday, was allowed to proceed to the city today with its 1,100 passengers. A smallpox case was found on the second day from Queenstown and the patient was isolated for the remainder of the voyage. All other passengers were vaccinated at sea and the ship fumigated. Four infants died during the voyage, described as severe.

Rochester man sells shipyard pinne trees to Bath buyers

John F. Torr of Rochester sold pinne trees for shipbuilding to Bath, Missouri. Seventeen trees brought 465 dollars on the stump, averaging eighty five feet in length. The eleventh annual New Hampshire Poultry Society exhibition will be in Manchester January 19 and 12 with entries closing January 7. Preparations for a fine show are under way. The state census shows hay per acre under one ton, corn 37 bushels, wheat 15, oats 37. Only 6.7 acres per person are available. population rose 29,600 in ten years, largely due to immigrants to factories.
