Citizens Call for Altered Water Rates

The joint committee of the City Council held its first meeting in the aldermanic chamber last night to examine water charges. Alderman Tinkham chaired, outlining three questions: should the water department operate for profit, are current rates burdensome, and should rates be reduced to aid the community. Various representatives spoke, urging rate reductions and changes to meter practices, with focus on aiding small property owners and discouraging profit motives. The matter was taken under advisement.
